Round Top Area Chamber of Commerce Spotlight: Elisa’s Sunday Haus

Oct 02, 2019 | Uncategorized

Elisa Henderson says that what sets her bed and breakfast, Elisa’s Sunday Haus, apart from the numerous lodging options in Round Top is its connection with nature. Set on four acres of land that was formerly an oil field, the southern dog-trot style home overlooks a pond and a serene garden that Elisa planted and tends to herself. Despite its secluded location, the B&B is walking distance from Round Top’s downtown, and guests can expect clean, comfortable rooms that are steeped in history by way of reclaimed barn wood beams and long-leaf pine flooring dating back to 1864, as well as unique touches from the Black Forest in Germany where Elisa grew up.

“Elisa’s Sunday Haus wasn’t planned,” she says. After emigrating from Germany when she was 28, Elisa worked in marketing for Singapore Airlines’ Houston office for 27 years. She retired to Round Top, where people started to inquire about renting her home during the Antiques Show. What started as a country retirement home ended up as Elisa’s Sunday Haus, an eco-friendly house with touches of reclaimed wood supplied by her husband Wayne Rentfro, founder of Wayne’s Barnwood.

Today, Elisa ensures that the experiences guests have at her bed and breakfast are personal and welcoming. She enjoys having breakfast with them each morning or having a cup of tea with them on the porch. And she continues to serve Round Top in any way she can – recently, she was recognized by the Chamber for her efforts at cleaning up Highway 237 and the roads surrounding Round Top. The spirit and community of the people in Round Top continue to inspire her, and she looks forward to your future visit.
